Capturing Green & Sustainable Finance Opportunities in Asia through Hong Kong
Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing humanity, with its
impacts being
felt across the world. China plans to hit “carbon emission peak” by 2030 and
achieve
“carbon neutrality” by 2060. Over RMB 100 trillion will need to be directed
towards
carbon reduction, presenting significant climate finance opportunities for
global
investors. Hong Kong is a major financial hub in Asia and has been supporting
the
development of green finance in recent years. French financial institutions have
been
active in promoting green finance initiatives in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay
Area.
Hong Kong serves as the trusted platform for regional and international
corporates to
raise green capital. Asia has the largest need for climate finance among
different
geographical regions, USD 66 trillion in the coming three decades based on some
market
estimate, equivalent to over half of the global investment. Hong Kong is the
largest
sustainable financing centre in Asia, capturing more than 1/3 of the region’s
market in
2022.
The green bond market in Hong Kong experienced a growth of more than 6 times to
USD 81
billion in just two years. It fully demonstrates that Hong Kong, as a green and
sustainable financial hub in the region, is well-positioned to channel
international
funds to support the green projects in the region in a market-oriented manner.
In this session, a panel of distinguished speakers will discuss how foreign
businesses
including French corporates and investors can leverage Hong Kong's financial
platform
and be part of a bigger growth story.
